Justin Sparks joined InMobi in January 2021 as our Head of Vertical Strategy for North America. Learn more about him and why he likes working at InMobi.
What are your responsibilities at InMobi?
I head our Vertical Strategy and go-to market division for North America. We have two sides in this division to help lead and support client development. One side is our enablement and training team who supports our Sales and Product teams in telling our story to the market. The second side are our vertical leads who are focused on developing their verticals through new products and partnerships and deepening the verticalized expertise for our teams within InMobi.
What is it that most excites you about these responsibilities?
Bringing a new function to a growing organization is a rewarding challenge to take on. I’m a builder and love the intellectual rigor required to build a new function. The best part of the process is building the team itself and the people who make it all work.
Is there a particular experience you had in the past that shaped your current career ambition?
Coming from the buy side, it was always clear within the first five minutes of a discussion if a partner knew our business and wanted to partner, vs. simply go through their sales script. Building deeper relationships and solving business problems is what has driven me since in my career. Relationships built on trust move mountains.
Why did you join InMobi? What is it in particular about the company’s purpose that motivated you to pick us?
It’s maybe over simplified but the influence mobile phones have and will have on our daily habits. There are so many possibilities to help drive the next era of the internet at a place that has ‘grown up’ as a mobile-first organization. Think about it, when do you not have your phone on you?
How does that align with your vision for your career?
I’ve largely been in the performance marketing and commerce spaces. The vision of our co-founders and what we believe we can do for the consumer and our customers is quite exciting.
What have you observed about InMobi’s culture and working environment?
Everyone here is committed and brings it each day. The energy and hunger across the company is unique and contagious.
What would you tell new recruits about the company?
If you are a builder, there is a unique and strong foundation here for you to do so as the company looks to its next phase(s) of growth.
What is a little known fact about you that people would be surprised to hear?
My best work comes when I am listening to classical pianists! If I’m not on a VC, chances are I’m listening to some piano at home.
