Komorebi primarily monetizes through banner ads that aligns well with the design of its utility apps. However, in 2022, a shift in local market trends led to declining eCPMs across banners. The limited bandwidth of developers made managing code changes and maintaining complex integrations difficult. Komorebi thus sought a partner who could help boost key monetization performance metrics for banner ads without adding operational overhead or requiring constant maintenance.

Komorebi partnered with InMobi Advertising to leverage the team’s expertise. What started as a server-to-server integration via AdMob’s Open Bidding in 2022 evolved into an SDK integration across both AdMob waterfall and SDK bidding, unlocking more and significant monetization potential. Today, Komorebi operates in a hybrid setup with InMobi’s supply-side platform (SSP) seamlessly, driving strong performance and growth, anchored by two key pillars of success.

#1: Maximized revenue growth from a robust SDK

Integrating the InMobi SDK via AdMob across both waterfall and bidding enabled Komorebi to boost ad revenue significantly by accessing premium demand from buyers eager to bid on SDK-enabled apps, which is considered premium inventory. The InMobi SDK’s stability meant minimal upkeep and easier management, an advantage for their lean development team, allowing them to focus on broader strategic priorities.

While Japan remains Komorebi’s core market, its user base is steadily growing in regions like Korea and North America, making personalized ad experiences increasingly important.
